How does AI work
An artificial neural network is composed of simple processors known as neurons. Each neuron receives inputs form other neurons and uses mathematical operations to interpret them.
Neurons can be arranged in layers. Each layer performs a different function. The first layer receives raw data, such as sounds and images. It then passes this data on to the second layer, which continues processing them. The final layer then produces an output.
Each neuron has an associated weighting value. This value is multiplied each time new input arrives to add it to the weighted total of all previous values. If the number is greater than zero then the neuron activates. It sends a signal along the line to the next neurons telling them what they should do.
This process repeats until the end of the network, where the final results are produced.

Artificial intelligence was created in 1950 by Alan Turing, who suggested a test for intelligent machines. He stated that a machine should be able to fool an individual into believing it is talking with another person.
John McCarthy wrote an essay called "Can Machines Thinking?". He later took up this idea. In 1956, McCarthy wrote an essay titled "Can Machines Think?" He described the problems facing AI researchers in this book and suggested possible solutions.
